Rain Catcher

Rain Catcher (bloody weather)
A girl takes the opportunity to sun bake on the patio at the back of the home for that all over tan but the weather has other ideas.
The eye in the sky represents the possibility that there is always someone watching whatever you do no matter how idyllic the setting or how "private" you think your spot is.

I had a rough idea of what I wanted to do with this but the original pencil sketch (above) did not quite cut it. Something was out of balance. The early version of what was in my mind for this had no girl, just the weather elements but I did not like it that way much. After a few days of looking at it in went the girl and the terracotta paving stones.
Later in GIMP I scanned in the lightning bolt hand and went with it. I feel it just gave this it's balance and added a little more punch to the "bloody weather" theme.

Sometimes these things don't go smoothly and lots of editing is done to achieve the finished design.
Others just flow out from start to finish and look fine without an edit. Edits make for better art though.
I have also now started using Krita for drawing instead of GIMP and really love the way it just always works with the tablet. The biggest problem is not being able to "nudge" objects with the arrow keys. (they say this is coming later) Definitely better in my view for drawing than GIMP.

Capitalism Cataclysm

Capitalism Cataclysm

By its very nature the capitalist system closely resembles the natural pre-civilised world that paid homage to the survival of the fittest mantra and rewards the hard working, the lucky,
the privileged or the ruthless in unequal amounts.

From my song "Tide Keeps Turning" the first verse talks to this concept.
"Winner takes all it's the free market creed
Poor keep struggling, with kids they can't feed
Politician banging on bout things hes gonna do
And no one notices, the old soft shoe
Dancers dancing in the same old way
Looks like, moral panic is here to stay"

Why?

Why is it so? I used to hear from the mad looking scientist Prof Julian Sumner Miller with his crop of wild unkempt hair long before it was fashionable, talking from the old black and white TV when I was very young. He really turned me on the wonders of science over opinion squared.
I have contemplated this in so many contexts ever since. Some days bring a smile others make you wanna scream so loud you shatter your glasses. That's if you can find them to begin with.

I don't have the answers to the age old questions and I won't bore you with my theories but hardly a day goes by that I don't find myself taking in a deep breath followed by a long sigh and thinking to myself...WHY!

Foot In Mouth Disease

We've all done it. Opened our mouths and out comes our opinion. I am reminded of a meme graphically and texturally describing what to do with one's opinion that involved an opinion some lubricating gel and the owner's rectum.

Many of us are guilty of this and the shame it brings. How many times have we collectively posted some dumb shite on a social media page or other when riled, only to later realise later how utterly self-righteous, preachy and opinionated it was... Thank the gods for the edit button, except it is already far too late, but we, or at least I feel somewhat relieved in the delusion that we have "fixed that shit" by editing or deleting a post...
However, just like that angry email you send your boss and everyone on the mailing list, it is already too late. Now you own that.
The internet is a big fan we unwittingly or deliberately throw our personal metaphorical excrement at without realising just how far it goes and how permanent the stain is. At least things we say in the open air dissipate in much the same way passing wind does.

Why All The Waves?

Why all the Waves? Waves can be considered awesome in so many ways and I have always loved watching and drawing them, as well as surfing them. I still love drawing them.

The surfer faces a number of fears,
some rational some not so much...
Will I get smashed on the rocks like a cabbage and die?

Or hammered by a set of gigantic waves and drown?
What about the world's greatest predator, the shark?
The drawing
looks to explore these fears from a humorous perspective.

A Brief HIDI

A Brief HIDI ( How I Do It).
As I draw and take my time sketching the stuff hopefully getting as close to the finished idea as possible. I go from one idea to the next and while I am drawing I seem to get more ideas. The work is mostly done in one sitting, first on paper which is later scanned and redrawn using a Waycom Tablet .
This is what an original sketch may look like.

Sometimes I have rubbed out part of the original sketch and rescanned then added the changes directly and digitally. Which is easy as using an eraser and a pencil again.
Then using GIMP the layers are added and the sketch is traced out, filled and shaded before publishing.
Each print is still a long and involved process of do and redo and sometimes bin it. The ones I like may make it to poster form or at least cards which you can purchase from http://fineartamerica.com/art/all/wayne+hutchinson/all
And the final product is ready to print as a poster or other and I can move on to the next work of art.
